So…forgive my ignorance please….if I want to move money from the “C” to the “S” fund, will stocks from the “C” have to be sold to buy stocks from the “S” fund…thereby possibly moving money from one fund to another??

Whoops.. my mistake in my question…I meant, is there any possibility of losing money transferring from one fund to another?

You will not be losing any money by switching from one fund to another. Your current TSP balance will stay the same no matter if you switch from the S-Fund to the C-Fund or vice versa.

The only way you lose money in the Thrift Savings Plan is when the fund that you are invested in does not perform well.
